A postmortem examination has been carried out on the body of a man who died yesterday following a serious assault on Academy St, Navan, Co Meath, last week.

Martin O’Gorman, a bachelor from Athlone, passed away yesterday afternoon at Beaumont Hospital. He was found unconscious by a taxi driver at around 12.30am on Monday last.

It is believed he sustained head injuries during an assault by a group of up to four people. No one has been arrested over the attack.

Investigating gardaí have renewed their appeal for information.

Supt Michael Devine of Navan Garda station said they were seeking to speak to three or four people, at least two of whom were women, seen around Academy St between midnight and 1am on the night of the assault.

The postmortem examination was carried out by acting Deputy State Pathologist this morning.
