A 21-year-old Lithuanian man charged with assault causing serious harm at a house in Santry, Dublin over the weekend has been remanded in custody until tomorrow. Gertautas Suslavicius appeared before Judge Derek McVeigh at Dublin District Court yesterday.

A 24-year-old Lithuanian man received a single stab wound to his chest in the incident, which took place at the accused's home at Oak Avenue, Santry, shortly after midnight on Sunday.

He later died in Beaumont hospital. Mr Suslavicius, who appeared in court yesterday, was arrested at a house in the Beaumont area about six hours later.

Solicitor Philip Hannon, for the accused, was granted a request for his client to undergo psychiatric assessment. Psychiatric reports from Lithuania are also being obtained. The court heard the defendant made no comment when charged with the attack.

The victim has not yet been identified as all family members have not been notified of his death.
