Four-time world champion Tommi Makinen failed to start the second day of the Rally of Catalunya today.

The Finnish Subaru driver was forced to drop out after the 50km lead-up to the start after his car leaked oil and water.

Makinen had ended up in a ditch on the final stage yesterday's and although he managed to get back onto the course, he finished the day in 12th place, 3min 25sec behind the leader.

The limited repairs carried out on the car under rally rules failed to prepare it for Saturday's stages. Frenchman Gilles Panizzi in a Peugeot was the overnight race leader.
