A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash on the M50 in Dublin that closed southbound lanes from the M1 to the Red Cow junction.

Gardaí say at least three vehicles - a car and two lorries - were involved in the crash at around 11am. Other reports suggest as many as five vehicles were involved.

A considerable amount of debris is understood to have been scattered across the area near the Ballyfermot junction where the crash happened.

Northbound lanes were not affected, but a southbound stretch of the motorway closed for around five hours and traffic was diverted.
