British army technical officers carried out a controlled explosion following the discovery of a suspicious object outside a school in Lurgan, Co Armagh this morning.

A police spokesman said the device found on Francis Street was a “hoax” and the alert is now over.

Residents have returned home after a number of houses were evacuated as a precaution during the alert and the road has reopened to traffic.
