A teenage loyalist killed by his own pipebomb during rioting in north Belfast was buried today.

Thousands of mourners gathered outside Glen Branagh's home as he was given a full paramilitary funeral.

The 16-year-old member of the Ulster Defence Association's youth wing was killed when a pipe bomb he was handling exploded during sectarian riots on Sunday.

The procession went to Carnmoney cemetery for burial after snaking its way through the loyalist Tiger’s Bay district past a huge floral tribute that marked the spot where the youth was killed.

Loyalists claimed the bomb that killed Mr Branagh was thrown by nationalists and that he was merely throwing it back.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland immediately dismissed the claim as false.
