SHE opportunistic intervention by certain British politicians and 1 journalists who jumped on the moral crusade bandwagon to demand the banning of David Cronenberg's (left) film of J.G. Ballard's Crash.

The condemnation of the film by the British Heritage Minister, Virginia Bottomley, rang all the more hollow given that she had not even seen the film when she made her comments, while the campaign waged against Crash by the Daily Mall was cheap, hysterical and sensationalistic. Crash is not a great film, and it is not vintage Cronenberg, but it deserves to be seen here and in Britain - just as it has been seen by hundreds of thousands of viewers in Canada, France and Italy.
