The National Executive of the Prison Officers Association has sanctioned limited industrial action by its members at Wheatfield Prison in Dublin, the assistant general secretary, Mr Tom Hoare, said yesterday.
Notice has been served on the Department of Justice and the management at Wheatfield. March 6th was chosen for the proposed action, according to Mr Hoare, but he hoped efforts to ward it off would be successful.
The nature of the action has not been decided.
Mr Hoare said complaints against his members in Wheatfield "are being pursued by way of interview" instead of the more traditional method of correspondence.
