A main street in Limerick city was sealed off this afternoon following the discovery of a suspicious device in a shop doorway.

The Gardaí were alerted to a briefcase on Thomas St at 11 a.m. and an Army bomb disposal team from Cork performed a controlled explosion. Following forensic examination it was discovered that the briefcase contained cutlery.

The street was re-opened shortly before 4 p.m. this afternoon.
