Leinster have made "good progress" in their search for a successor to former head coach Matt Williams but have yet to settle on an appointment.

Media reports today suggested that Jon Callard, the ex-England full-back, would be unveiled as Williams' successor but his club, Leeds Tykes, dismissed the idea this afternoon.

Tykes chief executive Gary Hetherington, said: Jon is currently out of contract with the club but we are confident he will be with us for next season . . . we expect to sit down and discuss a new contract upon his return [from holiday]".

Leinster's Brian McLoughlin, Chairman of the Provincial Team Management Committee, gave a progress report to a representative group of players in Dublin this afternoon.

He said: "Of the many quality candidates for the Head Coach position there are three short listed, all eminently suitable. Jonathan Callard is the only candidate to indicate his non-availability to us."

"We would hope to finalise the selection process shortly," he concluded.
