An elderly farmer was charged at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday with, having a bomb factory at his Co Laois farm on June 20th.

Mr Thomas Conroy (76), of Clonaslee, Co Laois, was charged with having 16 improvised mortar bombs containing Semtex, as well as detonators and timers and with having a semi automatic pistol and ammunition.

Mr Conroy was arrested on a warrant issued by the Special Criminal Court this week and remanded on his own bail of £5,000 and a surety of £10,000 until November 20th.
