The Republic of Ireland won the under-20 UAE invitational four nation tournament after beating a highly rated France side 1-0 this afternoon.

Liam Kearney, the young Nottingham Forest striker, scored the only goal of the game after nine minutes to give manager Brian Kerr another success at underage level.

Korea, who beat Ireland 2-1 on Monday, needed to beat hosts the United Arab Emirates to lift the title but their match finished scoreless, allowing Kerr's youngsters in for glory.

The competition is a warm-up for the under-20 World Cup later this year.
