Melbourne - The suspected Nazi war criminal, Mr Konrad Kalejs, arrived in Australia yesterday and was immediately whisked away by security officials, a Melbourne Airport official said.

Mr Kalejs, Latvian-born but an Australian citizen, had flown from London, where he was expected to face an expulsion order. He is accused of being a member of the Arajs Kommando unit that murdered 30,000 Jews, gypsies and communists during the second World War. In the Latvian capital, Riga, yesterday prosecutors said they had asked Britain, Israel and Nazi-hunters for help in building a case against Mr Kalejs.
