Juventus clinched their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the fifth time tonight when they ended Basel's dreams of a miracle despite losing 2-1 in their clash at St Jakob-Park.
The Swiss champions, the first team from Switzerland to have reached the second group stage, needed to win by at least four goals to have any hope of making progress to the last eight at Juve's expense, and found the task beyond them.
But they at least went out in a victorious fashion thanks to a winning goal by their Argentine striker Christian Gimenez in the second minute of added time at the end of the game.
Gimenez fired in the winner from a corner by substitute Carlos Varela.
