The jury in the "headless body in the canal" murder trial has returned a verdict of murder and manslaughter against two sisters charged with the death of a Kenyan man last year.

Mother-of-one Charlotte Mulhall (23), from Kilclare Gardens in Tallaght was found guilty of the murder of Farah Swaleh Noor, also known as Sheilila Salim (38), at Richmond Cottages, Ballybough, on March 20th last year.

Her sister, Linda Mulhall, a mother-of-four (31) from the same address was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

Both had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Noor whose dismembered and headless body was pulled from the Royal Canal in Dublin last March. The jury heard the man's head has never been found.

The pair showed little reaction as the verdict was read out to the packed courtroom.  The jury returned a majority verdict this afternoon after over 18 hours and three nights of delibirations.

However later Charlotte hugged her two older brothers on the way down to the cells, whilst a tearful Linda told them "Thank God its over."

She then kissed each of them and hugged them tightly before also making her way out of court number 2 at the Four Courts to join her sister.

Her brother James Mulhall thanked the investigating gardai as he made his way out of the building.

In a series of shocking statements to the gardai the two sisters admitted their involvement in the killing of Mr Noor at their mother's house at Richmond Cottages, Ballybough last year, but had denied his murder ahead of the 10-day trial.

Mr Noor's arms and legs were spotted floating in the Royal Canal ten days after his brutal murder. His body was retrieved by the Garda Sub Aqua Unit in seven different parts after a passer-by saw his leg, with a sock on the end sticking out of the water.

There was no family in court for the victim. Gardai say his mother could not afford the flight from Kenya.

His estranged wife and two children will be informed of the outcome of the case and gardai will seek a victim impact statement from a family representative ahead of the December sentence date.

The women were remanded in custody until 4th December when they will be sentenced.
