Judge says cases may be struck out

Criminal cases may be, struck out because of gardai being transferred to Border duties

Criminal cases may be, struck out because of gardai being transferred to Border duties. Garda Ray Daly told District Court yesterday he ing transferred to the Border soon and had been told to look for a long remand in the case of Mr Gerard Hynes of Kilmahuddrick Walk Clondalkin. Mr Hynes is charged with handling a stolen tool kit worth £1,000 at his home on June 26th, 1996.

Judge Gillian Hussey said "this was not possible, as Mr Hynes is in custody. If gardai are going to be transferred to the Border, and they can't deal with their cases before the court, then they will just have to be struck out", she said. She remanded Mr Hynes in custody to July 17th for the DPP's directions.
