A man was again refused bail yesterday on handling charges after Dublin District Court heard Garda evidence he would flee the State if granted bail. Mr Christopher Kinahan (40), with an address in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England is accused of having a stolen credit card and travellers' cheques worth £16,000 in this State between May and June 1993.

The court heard the defendant had failed to appear in court on the travellers' cheques charge in September 1993. A detective said the defendant had moved to Britain after serving a prison sentence in the Netherlands and gardai had a "strong belief" he would leave the Republic if granted bail.

A State solicitor said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the travellers' cheques charge to be tried in the Circuit Court and six weeks was needed to prepare a book of evidence.

Judge Con O'Leary turned down an application for bail and further remanded the defendant in custody to appear again for mention on December 15th.
