American Dustin Johnson set the pace in the first round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am with an eight-under-par 68 to lead fellow American JB Holmes and Korean KJ Choi by one.
All three were playing their rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links, while Charley Hoffman shot a six under 64 at Monterey Peninsula, with Jeff Maggert and Blake Adams one adrift of him at the same course.
Ireland’s Padraig Harrington opened his weekend at Spyglass Hill where he carded a three under 69 despite three bogeys.
The Irishman was in a tie for 26th with Alex Cejka the sole European ahead of him on five under at Monterey Peninsula.
