TOKYO - The Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Yukihiko Ikeda, said he tried to resign yesterday to take responsibility for the Peru hostage crisis, which ended with the storming of the Japanese embassy in Lima on April 22nd. However he was persuaded by the Prime Minister, Mr Ryutaro Hashimoto, to stay on.
