Edinburgh - A man who infected his girlfriend with the HIV virus despite knowing it would put her life in danger was yesterday beginning a five-year jail sentence.

Stephen Kelly (33), had been found guilty of acting culpably and recklessly by having unprotected sex with a mother-of-three Ms Anne Craig (34), even though he had known for six months he was HIV positive. Kelly is the first person to be tried under Scots law for culpable and reckless conduct in giving the virus to someone else.
