Israeli soldiers maintain a presence in seven out of eight Palestinian-ruled cities they entered in recent weeks in an effort to stamp out suicide attacks that have killed scores of Israelis in nearly 23 months of bloodshed.

Israeli soldiers combed the streets of the West Bank city of Hebron for Palestinian militants today, rounding up at least 100 people and injuring several more with stun grenades.

Doctors at Hebron's Al-Ahli Hospital said at least five Palestinians were treated for shrapnel injuries and burns caused by the exploding casings of the grenades.

Palestinian witnesses said soldiers in the city centre sent people scurrying out of a busy market and injured several people when they threw the grenades into the crowd.
