Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian gunmen along the Gaza-Israel border early today.
Troops killed the militant from the Popular Resistance Committees as he planted explosives near a security fence separating Israel from the Gaza Strip, an Israeli army spokesman said.
After the shooting, the army fired artillery rounds at empty fields in northern Gaza.
Militants had launched rockets into the Jewish state overnight, a military spokesman said.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli troops arrested two Palestinians carrying a bomb in a bag. The army said the arrests thwarted a bomb attack planned for today.
Israel Army radio said one of the two arrested men was a suicide bomber and the other was his accomplice.
Palestinian suicide bombers have killed hundreds of people in attacks since a Palestinian uprising began in 2000. In the most recent incident, a suicide bomber killed ten people at a fast food outlet in Tel Aviv on April 17th.
