Voting on the Nice Treaty, the abolition of Capital Punishment and the acceptance of the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court has already begun on islands off the west coast.

It has been reported that voter turnout on the islands off Donegal, Mayo and Galway has been somewhat slow. The islands have a combined electorate of just over 2,700.

Islanders off the coast of Cork will vote with the rest of the country on Thursday.
