The value of retail sales rose by 4.1 per cent in October compared to the same month last year, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
However, the CSO said the value of retail sales fell by 2.3 per cent when compared with September.
The volume of retail sales rose by 1.1 per cent in October 2002 compared to October 2001, it said.
If Motor Trades are excluded, the annual increase was 1.6 per cent.

On a three-month basis, which gives a more stable indication of recent underlying trends, the CSO said the August-to-October volume figures show a 2.8 per cent increase compared with the three months ending July.
