Man (20s) killed and another injured in Longford crash

Gardaí are investigating a fatal crash which took place in the early hours of Saturday, at Coolnahinch, Cullyfad Road, Longford.

A passenger of the sole vehicle involved in the incident, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed for postmortem which is expected be conducted at a later date.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, was taken to Mullingar Regional Hospital where he is said to be recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

The road is closed and the services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

Meanwhile, Luas operator Transdev said services on Dublin’s Luas Red Line were operating with delays following and earlier incident on the Long Mile Road. Green Line services were operating normally.
