Woman (20) dies and four others hurt in two-car collision in Co Meath on Friday

A 20-year-old woman has died and four others have been injured following a two-car road crash in Duleek, Co Meath on Friday night.

The car in which the woman was travelling was being pursued by at least one Garda vehicle at the time of the crash.

The crash has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc). Investigators from the commission visited the scene of the crash early on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for Gsoc said in a statement: “The fatal road traffic incident which occurred on the N2 last night was referred to Gsoc because the car which crashed was under pursuit by gardaí prior to the incident occurring.

“Gsoc investigators attended the scene. There are parallel investigations underway. Gsoc’s investigation will focus primarily on matters relating to the conduct of the Garda pursuit.”

The female, back-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene after the car she was travelling in collided with another vehicle at Waterside Great, Duleek in Co Meath on the N2 Dublin Slane Road at about 10.20pm.

The male driver of the car in which the deceased was travelling, in his early 40s, and a 20-year-old female front seat passenger were taken to Blanchardstown Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary in Navan.

The male driver of the second car and a female passenger, both in their 30s, were injured in the crash. They have been taken to Drogheda Hospital.
