A 14-year-old boy was killed yesterday evening after he fell from a tractor in Co Cork.

Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened at 5.45pm at Knocknacullata, Killavullen in Mallow Co. Cork.

The boy, who has been named locally as Michael Murphy, was a passenger on a tractor drawing silage when he fell.

He received received serious head injuries and was airlifted to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the tractor, a man in his 20s, was not injured but was treated for shock after the incident.

The road at the scene remains closed pending a forensic collision examination of the area and diversions are in place.
