Tehran’s municipal council has named a street after an American activist killed by an Israeli military bulldozer in the Gaza Strip in 2003.

A report in the capital's Hamshahrinewspaper says the council is to name the street Rachel Aliene Corrie.

The pro-Palestinian activist was trying to prevent what activists believed was a military push to demolish Palestinian homes. It is the first time since the 1979 Islamic Revolution an Iranian street has been named after a US national. – (AP)
