The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the death of a man who became ill while in custody. The man became ill after he was arrested on Eyre Square in Galway city, and died 19 days later.

Tom Earley (56), Waterdale, Claregalway, Co Galway, died in hospital on Friday, August 10th. He had taken ill at about the time he was arrested at Eyre Square on Sunday, July 22nd.

Mr Earley, who was married with children, was buried in Claregalway on Wednesday.
