Gardai in Cork have appealed to the public for help after an 89-year-old woman was attacked and terrorised in her home by a lone intruder. The man broke in at around 12.15 a.m. yesterday and woke the woman who lives on her own at Rossalee Close in Mayfield, Cork. He demanded money and pushed her about before ransacking the house and pulling out the phone. She received some injuries and was taken to hospital and treated for severe shock.
Gardai were waiting for the woman to recover before interviewing her, but they believe the intruder was a man in his 20s, tall and with a scarf across his face. They are trying to establish how much money and what other property was taken. Supt P.J. Brennan appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the gardai at 021-501145.
