A process worker from Co Armagh pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates Court yesterday to intimidating a colleague at Golden Cow Dairies which resulted in her resignation. Ian Clayton (18), of Kernan Park, Portadown, Co Armagh, was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

An RUC inspector told the court that Ms Teresa Carmel Smith, married with four children, was employed in the factory. Clayton told her he saw, her on television during incidents on the Garvaghy road in Portadown after the Drumcree standoff in July.

The inspector said Ms" Smith, who said she was on holiday at the time, felt intimidated. As a result she left her employment but had returned to work there since.

Mr Ian McDonald, solicitor, defending, said Clayton had sent a letter of resignation to his employers. He had never, intended what happened to be anything but a joke. Clayton was not involved at Drumcree and was not an Orangeman or a member of any organisation. There had been no threats and no physical violence.
