The Government has approved the establishment of a non-statutory inquiry into the handling of allegations of child sexual abuse in the Diocese of Ferns.

The inquiry will be made up of a panel of three people and will be chaired by the former Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice Frank Murphy.

The Minister for Health and Children, Micheal Martin, said the establishment of the inquiry followed on from the thorough and efficient report prepared by Mr George Bermingham, SC.
