The Morris tribunal has ordered an investigation into allegations contained in a document and telephone call received by Fine Gael's Jim Higgins and Labour's Brendan Howlin.
Mr Justice Frederick Morris said he made the order that tribunal staff conduct a preliminary investigation into allegations received in a faxed document by Mr Higgins and a telephone call received by Mr Howlin in June 2000, that two senior Garda members may have acted improperly.
Interviews should be arranged between tribunal investigators and two retired gardaí, Patrick Joseph Togher and James Madigan, and Frank McBrearty snr, for the purpose of clarifying information and evidence prior to the hearing of this module, the chairman said.
