Some Indian troops will start pulling out of Kashmir tomorrow to coincide with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's first official visit to the disputed region, an army officer said.

"About 20,000 soldiers will be pulled out in a phased manner and systematically," the officer added.

India has not specified how many troops it has in Kashmir, but newspapers have put the number in the hundreds of thousands.
