Indian media heaped praise on the national cricket team after their win in the first test against Zimbabwe ended a winless run outside the sub-continent that had lasted 15 years.

"India break 15-year jinx," read the headline in today's Times of India, which reported the win on its front page as did many other major dailies.

Many newspapers also carried front-page pictures of Man of the Match Shiv Sundar Das - top-scorer with 82 not out as India won the Bulawayo game by eight wickets yesterday.

It was India's first success outside the sub-continent since a 2-0 series victory in England in 1986 and the media attributed the strong showing in Zimbabwe to confidence gained from their 2-1 series win over Australia at home earlier this year.

"After playing one of the greatest cricket series against Australia recently, this Indian team has now achieved another notable landmark, both exploits coming in quick succession," former test batsman Sanjay Manjrekar wrote in his column in The Indian Expressnewspaper.
