The Irish Medical Organisation has accused the Department of Finance of vetoing health service reform agreed between it and the Department of Health.

At a press conference in Dublin yesterday, the IMO's chief executive, Mr George McNeice, said they had heard an awful lot about the new health strategy but the Department of Finance had vetoed it.

While the Department had produced volumes of reports on the future of the health services, "we have serious concerns that a Department that has no concern in health policy has the power to veto funding", Mr McNeice said.
