The Irish Haemophilia Society (IHS) last night confirmed it had dispensed with the services of the only senior counsel representing it at the Lindsay Tribunal, Mr John Trainor SC. The society "withdrew Mr Trainor's retainer" by letter on Friday last, October 13th, an IHS spokesman, Mr Jackie Gallagher, confirmed.

Mr Gallagher said the society was grateful to Mr Trainor and commended him "for the way in which he represented us". No reason for the decision was given.

Mr Trainor has not cross-examined the last number of witnesses to come before the tribunal. Prof Ian Temperley, former director of the National Haemophilia Treatment Centre, is being cross-examined for the IHS by its solicitor, Mr Raymond Bradley.
