Some 86 patients attended casualty on Saturday/Sunday. Some 26 patients were admitted and there are now 361 in-patients. Two operating theatres are in use.

Cork University Hospital (550 beds)

About 55-60 nurses provided cover compared to the normal 150-160. There were 165 beds vacant and one surgery theatre operating compared to the normal 10.

There were 77 vacant beds and 20 admissions to the accident and emergency unit on Saturday/Sunday.

The 101 admissions to casualty were similar to normal weekend levels. Extra nurses assisted several patients after a fire nearby. Some 30 patients were admitted and there are now 379 patients. One operating theatre is in use.

Some 49 patients attended the casualty department. Some 16 patients were admitted and there are now 266 patients, with one operating theatre in use.

Some 114 patients attended casualty on Saturday/Sunday and 18 patients were admitted. There are now 299 patients, with two operating theatres in use.

A backlog of emergency operations has been dealt with. The acute psychiatric unit reduced its patient numbers from 44 to 30 and "communication problems" between doctors and nurse strike committees were vastly improved.

An additional 13 beds were closed and there are now 117 patients. Management said staff were still under severe pressure. There are now 53 vacant beds.
