Leinster House was in party mode last Wednesday as Senators gathered with their families for the first sitting of the 24th Seanad.

The bar was hopping into the night as the new boys and girls, along with their proud mammies, celebrated their elevation to the upper house.

But the Fine Gaelers got a rude awakening when word came down from on high that Enda was requesting an audience with them the following morning. At 7am.

Some, we understand, were not best pleased, but they all managed to drag themselves, in varying degrees of consciousness, to Government Buildings to hear him deliver a rousing pep talk.

Enda’s energy is a wonder to behold; 7am meetings are now a regular feature of his schedule.

And it seems he expects the same level of hard work and dedication from his troops. The word around the corridors is that the Taoiseach has quietly informed his deputies that he doesn’t want them carousing into the night in the Dáil bar. If they are of a mind to give it a lash, they will have do it elsewhere.
