MS JUNE Moloney said yesterday that after the incident at the Blackhall Stud party, she saw Ms Michelle Rocca in a bad state, her nose was bleeding and she kept saying that the father of her child had beaten her.

Ms Moloney, who hosted the party, said she was angry and annoyed at the whole episode as it had been brought to the papers and was an invasion of her privacy and she had hoped it could have been settled out of court.

She said she just did not want to be there (in court). She was called on behalf of Ms Rocca. She was appalled by the inaccuracies which she heard on the first days and wanted to tell the truth.

She said her husband, Mr Brian Moloney, managed Blackhall Stud and they moved there in February 1992. Before that they lived in Co Tipperary. She knew the Ryans about seven years.

She met Ms Rocca when she was with Mr Ryan and his father, Dr Tony Ryan, at a pub in September 1991 after the All Ireland. Ms Moloney said she continued to meet Ms Rocca.

Mr Garrett Cooney SC, for Mr Ryan, asked if at that time there was a relationship between Ms Rocca and Mr Ryan. Ms Moloney said: "No, there wasn't. She was dating other men."

Mr Cooney said Ms Moloney had heard Ms Rocca's evidence and that she had said Mr Ryan and she were engaged and getting married. Ms Moloney said she had been appalled by the inaccuracies.

Asked if Ms Rocca and Mr Ryan were together for the six months before that evening, Ms Moloney said she had never been in the company of both of them together except in Tulfarris House and at her birthday party.

Ms Moloney said she had phoned to invite Mr Ryan and Ms Sarah Linton to the party together. Ms Rocca had arrived at Blackhall Stud during the week. She had not been invited at that stage.

On Wednesday, Mr Ryan rang her (Ms Moloney), and invited her to Tulfarris House. She told him that Ms Rocca and her cousin were in the house and he said he did not mind if they joined them.

They all went to dinner and Ms Moloney left with her husband and Ms Rocca said she would follow on in a taxi. She saw Ms Rocca again the next morning. Mr Ryan was with her. He spoke with their daughter Claudia and then left.

Asked if they were engaged at that time, Ms Moloney said: "No, absolutely not".

Ms Moloney staid Ms Rocca phoned before the party to say she had a present for her. She wanted to have Ms Rocca there also. Ms Moloney had said she was more than welcome to come but she" must tell her that she had invited Mr Ryan and Ms Linton. She told Ms Rocca she could come if she could handle seeing her ex boyfriend with a new companion and if she could behave. Ms Rocca said she always behaved like a lady.

At the party, Ms Linton said she had a slight headache and was feeling quite tired. She brought her to Mr David Marshall's room. He was still downstairs. Mr Ryan said he was going to leave and went to look for Ms Linton.

Within a few minutes, a guest said they thought there was some trouble between Mr Ryan and Ms Rocca. Ms Moloney said she went up and saw Mr Ryan and Mr Linton at the top of the landing. They both looked very distressed.

"And then I saw Michelle, she was in a bad state, her nose was bleeding, she was hysterical and kept saying the father of her child had beaten her," Ms Moloney said.

Ms Moloney denied that she ordered Mr Ryan and Ms Linton out of the house. Ms Rocca stayed in the house. The next day she was very upset.

Mr Nicholas Kearns SC, for Ms Rocca, cross examining, suggested that nothing Ms Rocca did that night terminated their friendship. Ms Moloney: "Yes." She said she was caught in the middle of a scenario. She was very concerned with Ms Rocca as she was very upset.

Mr Kearns asked if Ms Rocca had perpetrated a vicious attack, would they have still been friends. Ms Moloney said she was unaware of what happened in the room.
