A look at the main findings in the 2011 Census

Ireland’s population now stands at 4,588,252

Irish residents born outside country at 766,770

Sex ratio of 98.1 males for every 100 females

Number of divorced people increases to 87,770

Number of separated people at 116,194

Number of non-Irish nationals 544,357

Some 514,068 Irish residents spoke a foreign language at home

Polish followed by French, Lithuanian and German were most popular

Number of Irish Travellers increased to 29,573

Almost 475,000 households were renting.

Total housing stock grew to almost 2 million homes

But almost 290,000 were vacant on Census night
