US-bound Aer Lingus flight returns to Dublin as cabin crew fall ill

A US-bound Aer Lingus flight was forced to return to Dublin last night after a number of cabin crew members fell ill over the Atlantic.

Flight EI-139, with 280 passengers on board, left Dublin at 4.23pm destined for Boston, but after just over two hours into the six-hour journey, the crew decided to turn around and return to Dublin.

The crew reported that “a number of cabin crew members” had fallen ill. No passenger was reported to have become ill.

The crew did not declare an emergency and confirmed to controllers that they had no special requirements on arrival in Dublin stating the the airline had made all necessary arrangements.

The Airbus A330 arrived back at Dublin at 8.40pm, landed without incident and was met at the terminal by medical personnel. The flight was later cancelled and the passengers sent to hotels for the night. They are expected to continue their journey to Boston today.
