The National Centre for Youth Mental Health is a new privately funded initiative directed by clinical psychologist Dr Tony Bates.
Currently based in the School of Psychology, University College Dublin (UCD) with a staff of four, the initial aim of the centre is to develop an understanding of the mental health needs of young people in Ireland today.
It will also provide the framework for mental health professionals to develop mental health services specifically geared towards young people. Part of its role will also be to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health problems and mental illnesses in Irish society.
Time to Act on Youth Mental Health, the public forum on Tuesday, June 20th at 7.30pm in Theatre L, Newman Building, UCD, is the first public event organised by the National Centre for Youth Mental Health. The forum will be addressed by Prof Patrick McGorry, director of the Orygen youth mental health service in Melbourne, Australia; Dr Bates, director of the National Centre for Youth Mental Health; and Dan Hayden, the incoming president of the UCD Students' Union.
All welcome. Admission is free. Tel: 01 7168410 for more details.
