Hauliers are due to return to work this morning after a resolution of their pay dispute with the shipping companies late last night.
A spokesman for the Irish Road Hauliers' Association said members voted two-to-one in favour of returning to work, accepting proposals made to them by the shipping companies. They had accepted "substantial increases" in job rates, he said. "Negotiations will continue, to wrap up some loose ends, but as far as the hauliers are concerned, it is back to work."
The IRHA yesterday had two meetings with the Minister for Transport and Communications, Mr Dukes, who appointed a Departmemt official, Mr Stephen Tracey, to act as facilitator. The IRHA also met with shipping companies, before reporting to about 250 members at a meeting in a Dublin hotel last night.
