Milan - The prosecutor in the trial of the former wife of the murdered Italian fashion tycoon, Maurizio Gucci, said she should be condemned to life in prison.

Mr Carlo Nocerino said Ms Patrizia Reggiani Gucci's four alleged accomplices should also get life sentences. Gucci was shot dead on the steps of his Milan office in 1995.

The prosecution contends that Ms Reggiani, enraged after the acrimonous break-up of her marriage, plotted Gucci's murder with a clairvoyant friend, whose lover found a hitman and a getaway driver. Ms Auriemma, her lover and the getaway driver have all confessed to the crime, while Ms Reggiani and the hit-man say they are innocent. A verdict is expected next week.
