The Equal Status Bill should be handled with urgency by the Oireachtas to ensure it becomes law before the general election, says the Equality Campaign.

The campaign represents bodies ranging from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to Women's Aid.

It says many groups have spent 10 years or more fighting for the Bill which "represents such an important advance in equality standards that it would be a major set-back if it were not enacted".
