The grandfather of a baby mauled to death by rottweilers was stabbed and his partner killed in a separate attack hours later.
John Brightwell (50) and Debra Larn (47) were attacked at their home in Beaumont Leys, Leicester, early on Sunday morning, said niece Natalie Brightwell (17).
A man (26) will be charged with the woman's murder tomorrow. Police believe the two incidents are unconnected.
Ms Brightwell said her uncle is the father of Ryan, Caydee-Lee's father. "Two tragedies in a few days - it's left us distraught," she said.
At around 4pm on Saturday, Mr Brightwell's five-month-old granddaughter, Caydee-Lee, was savaged by guard dogs at The Rocket pub in the New Parks area of the city.
Caydee-Lee was savaged by guard dogs in the living quarters of the pub and was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where she later died from her injuries.
The dogs attacked the child while her mother and partner were moving furniture out of the living quarters of the pub.
A police spokesman said: "It appears that a fire escape door was left mistakenly open and allowed the family's dogs, Bruno and Bess, access to the living quarters.
"The dogs then made their way to the bedroom in which baby Cadey-Lee was sleeping.
"By the time Amy, Lee and the relatives who were helping them move realised what had happened, the dogs had attacked."
The two dogs were described by neighbours as guard dogs and not pets, had been destroyed. "They were very aggressive and known to be vicious. Everybody around here was petrified of them," a neighbour told the Daily Mirror.
