The Government is to provide emergency funding of €350,000 to assist people affected by flooding in the Bihar state in India.

Minister of State for Overseas Development Peter Power said today the funding will help provide for immediate needs such as food, medical assistance, shelter and clothing to the survivors of the flooding, which has "devastated large areas of Bihar, washing away homes and villages, and affecting millions of people".

“I am saddened by the devastating impact the flooding in Bihar has had on so many communities, including villages not usually considered vulnerable to this kind of natural disaster," the Minister said.

Ireland’s assistance will be provided through NGO partners working in cooperation with the Indian authorities.
