The Government is planning to give €300,000 in funding to 13 immigrant centres throughout the United States in 2002-03, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The centres provide information, advice and outreach services to Irish nationals, and the latest grants bring the total funding since 1990 to almost €3.6 million.
"The grant awards are in recognition of the excellent work by Irish immigration support groups across the United States," the foreign affairs ministry said.
The centres are in Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C.
Last month, a report from a government task force on policy regarding emigrants urged that cash aid to Irish emigrants' groups around the world should be sharply boosted.
It estimated that of about three million Irish citizens abroad, almost 1.2 million were born in Ireland, the equivalent of approximately 30 percent of the present population.
