A schoolgirl who was left with a scar on her forehead after she had tripped and fallen in a hole has been awarded €20,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

Barrister Conor Kearney said Kodie Geoghegan Dowdall, aged seven, was visiting her aunt in Ballymun, Dublin, in December 2006 when she fell. She sued SIAC Construction, Clondalkin, Dublin, for damages through her mother. Mr Kearney said SIAC, which denied liability, had made a €20,000 settlement offer. Mr Justice Matthew Deery, hearing the scar could be revised by excision and resuturing when Kodie is 18, approved the offer.
